Making up with your spouse after a huge fight, is not that easy.

"making

You cannot easily forget the bitterness caused by the harsh words your spouse uttered, isn’t it?

The hurting words your spouse so callously uttered, keeps coming back to you making you feel angry and resentful against him\\her. You too react sharply towards your spouse.

But, you feel ashamed by the way you behaved after your anger cools down. You want normalcy back in your relationship.

Yes!

The love for your spouse is so intense that you forget and forgive him\\her. “The words spoken by my spouse is just a flash of momentary anger. He\\she loves me. It was I who made much ado about an innocuous issue” you tell yourself regretfully.

Now, all you want is making up with your spouse.

But your ego will never allow you to own up your fault.

No!

Do not ever feel egoistic, in making up with your spouse. It spells doom to your marriage.

Shall we look at the common reasons for your fights and arguments with your spouse?

Arguments and fights between you spring up, when work or family related stress and tension takes toil of your energy and patience.

When you return tired and fatigued from work, you want some peace at home. But when your spouse waits for you with a long complaining list, you are naturally keyed up.

Arguments between you starts with ferocity. Both are not willing to give in. Soon, your argument snowballs into a huge fight.

Bitter and harsh words fly around, with each accusing the other with vengeance.

But, the aftermath of any fight or argument is regret and remorse, isn’t it?

You feel you should have been a little more patient and understanding. You want to make up with your spouse, but feel apprehensive about his\\her reaction.

You mostly worry, that you will receive yet another tongue lashing from your spouse.

I want to tell you about my experience.

My husband was prone to temperamental tantrums when he was angry. But after his anger cooled down, he always felt ashamed of his violent display of anger.

His way of truce was always to buy my favorite sweet. He would place the sweet near me and look sheepishly at me. I could not help, but smile at him. Making up after a fight was that simple for us.

But in modern marriages, asking an apology after a fight has become an ego issue.

You feel egoistic to ask for forgiveness.

This is a wrong way, to handle the aftermath of fights between you. Unless you make up with your spouse, your fights might gradually lead your marriage to divorce.

Are you wondering about the ways of making up with your spouse?

No 1. Way of making up with your spouse is to own up your fault

When you are in the wrong, you should accept it. Never try to prove yourself right.

Mostly, your fight never ends because you do not make up the right way. You begin defending yourself, when you ask for apology.

This is a wrong way of making up with your spouse. When you defend yourself, you are in actual fact trying to prove that the fault behind the fight was your spouse. This ignites a renewed fight between you.

Your spouse also wants to prove, that he\\she was not in the wrong.

Defending yourself, is not the way to end your fight.

“I am sorry” such simple words, isn’t it?

Your spouse is easily pacified, when you own up your fault.

Even if you are in the right, do not try to justify that you were in the right and that your spouse was in the wrong.

This could make your fight last for days, as your spouse resents your holier than thou attitude.

No 2 way of making up with your spouse is to apologize the proper way

It is no use when you formally utter the word sorry.

It makes your spouse even angrier, when you think he\\she should accept your namesake apology.

Take time for the anger of your spouse to subside. It is no use apologizing, when his\\her anger is vivid and raw. He\\she will never accept it.

After you see visible signs of the anger of your spouse cooling down, sit beside him\\her. Look directly into the eyes of your spouse. If you look elsewhere while asking for an apology, your spouse instantly senses that you are not really sorry for the fight.

Explain to your spouse the reasons why you lost your temperament, and that you are truly sorry for the hurt you inflicted him\\her.

No 3 way of making up with your spouse is to accept his\\her apology immediately

Was your spouse in the wrong?

Does he\\she apologize to you?

Accept it immediately. Do not extend the fight, by pointing out his\\her mistakes and make the fight continue forever.

Accepting the apology of your spouse is necessary, if you want to make up with your spouse.

Do not take it as a chance to show your spouse your piece of mind. Your spouse is not your enemy, that you should want to outwit him\\her.

No 4 way of making up with your spouse is to move away from the tense atmosphere

After asking for an apology, suggest to your spouse for an outing. When you move away from the scene of your fight, you easily forget your bitterness.

Go for a candle light dinner.

Go for a movie.

Go for shopping.

You can easily feel your anger and resentment disappearing.

The changed atmosphere makes it easy for both to call it a truce.

No 5 way of making up with your spouse is to behave normally

Most of you are abnormally silent, after making up with your spouse. It is your indirect way of saying that you still have not got over your anger.

You want to portray yourself as a martyr. So, you remain unnaturally quiet. You answer in monosyllables, when your spouse talks to you.

Can you see that though the fight between you has ended, the uneasiness between you remains?

This is not the way of making up with your spouse, after a bitter fight. Keep communicating with your spouse.

When you behave naturally with your spouse, he\\she feels relaxed and your relationship is easily back to normal.

CONCLUSION

Fights are normal feature of all marriages. It is not a sign of a failed marriage.

It is part and parcel of your relationship.

But not making up with your spouse after your fight, is a definite sign of a failing marriage.
